june 22 2009

assalamualaikum and a very good day to you miss adila. sorry for late posting. everything starts to mess up already. hehehe......

last monday, we had done on lesson 5 unit 2. it was about `we need to take a sample`. actually, this topic discuss about how a doctor sholud describe or talk to the patients about the procedure of taking the sample.

basicly, the doctor has to tell the patient nicely without scaring he or she.
for example, if you want to take something or may be a sample for his or her brain, you won`t simply say` i am going to make a hole on your head and suck out your brain`. of course the patients will run away or faint immediately.

when talking to the patient, doctor should use lay terms instead of medical terms. this is because the patient sometimes cannot understand about what you are telling him.
for example, it is more appropreate to say `please take a pee` rather than `please urinate`.

well, i don`t have anything else to say but i was so excited waiting for the night class that was on 24th june.

ok, that`s all. thank you and wasalam............

working underpressure #1

assalamualaikum....and every good dat to you miss adila. how are you? hehehe...i have been checking my blog lately and i found out that there is not comment post by you yet.
it is ok...i know that you will comment me one day, however waiting is torturing. well, that what i think.

before i write about our yesterday class (sorry for late posting because i have to prepare for my assignment which is on the friday), i would to thank you for treating us for breakfast, eermm..may be tea time is more accurate.
hehehe.......

about the thing that the class has been talking about me lately due to the unforgettable events last monday evening, it is ok with me. there is no heart feeling at all.
hahaha...
if you want to know something, i have faced the same, may be worser than that since my secondary school. but i just take it easily because i know what i am and who i am this thing also happens at the campus.
hehehe....
ok, enough about such nonsense thing.

talking about our yesterdat class, it was the nice and enjoyable. i know taht we are rushing with time. but i believe you are capable to do it.

this time, we focused on the allergies and shock effects. we learned about seafood allergy and the fish allergy. although the symptoms are all most similar however it is important for the doctor to what thing has cause this allergy but giving the treatment. this is because the treatment may exacerbate the patient`s condition. we also did a few role play and i found that this method can help us to improve our communication skill.

ok, that all for now. don`t worry, i won`t kill or torture the writer of the `futureavicenna.blogspot.com`and others who have the same content to death because i am professional, libreal and very very open-minded person.

if you know me more, then i believe that you find me a very interesting character to know with a few twisted personalities. i have secrets of my own. hahahaha.........................

ok, that all, thank you........
hehehe......
wasalam.....

ended of lesson 1

assalamualaikum.....and a very good day to you miss adila.
how are you today? i hope that you are fine.

todayis the most boring day that i have experienced. two of the lectures were canceled and we waited like dummies in our class. we watched movies, listened to the songs and study a bit. it was so bored.

first of all, i want to apologize about my poor attention during the your lecture. it is not like i do not like it but my brain is just about to be heated up. so, it takes time, that is why i look sleepy.

ok, back to the main point. today class, to be honest is a little bit bored may be because of my fault or my your class is the first one for today. however, i am trying my best to stay focus in your lecture.

generally, today, i have learn about a few medical phrases such as euthyroidism; (u-tai-roi-di-sem), glucogenesis, glycemic;( ge-lai-se-mik) and etc.

i also abe to know about prefix and suffix which will eventually change the meaning of the root word. for example, euthyroidism. prefix eu stand for normal, thyroid is the root word and suffix ism is the noun. it means normal thyroid function.
the meaning eventually changes due to different prefix and suffix used to the root word.

today, we have finished our first unit. generally, in this unit, we learn about a common type of disease that is diabetes mellitus type 1. we learn how to handle, recognise and help this poeple.

we also gain skills in medical communication such as how to begin a talk with the patients. how to tell bad news to the patients. all of these are very important to us, the pre-medical students because we are going to use this in the future. besides, it helps us how to be a good doctor.

we also able to enter a bit about unit 2, that is working underpressure. well....that all for today and please, i hope that you can correct my grammatical errors and sentence strucutres in your comment.

thank you and i hope that tomorrow is always better than today....wasalam.

textbook 2

assalamualaikum...and every good day to you miss adila.
i hope that you are fine.

today is the first day we use other simulation instruments to help us know how to communicate as a concern doctor. but it is the second day we act as doctor and patient.

if you remember, yesterday we tried to make small talk with the patient and find the suitable topics that can be used in the small talk. the purpose of small talk is to encourage the patient to talk confidently and to share each of their problem with the doctor.
besides, this small talk shows what kind of doctor you are and as patient`s first impression.

today, we learn the attitudes that that doctors must have in order too tell the patients about their illness especially the one who suffer from chronic diseases. i find that it is hard to tell other people about their illness.

for example, i act as a doctor while my friends act as a boy and a mother. i need to tell the boy and his mother that he has diabetes mellitus type 1 at the early age. of course the mother starts questioning me a lot about his son`s health, his life and other illness. this will cause a bit problem to me since the mother already getting panic. the boy also starts to feel lifeless and shy.
i also need to explain to them how to recognize, treat and help people with diabetes. and of course not in medical terms to ensure that they are fully able understand what kind of disease they are facing with.

i can imagine how hard if i, who is a doctor want to tell the bad news to someone who is very close to me or may be my beloved one. of course i will be will in dilema. but i must tell it either i want it or not.

for example, just imagine how are you going to tell one of your family members that he or she has cancer. and of course they will need treatment which is the chemotheraphy. although this treatment can help to increase the chance for you to live, there are a lot of bad or may be worst side effects that are fatal.
just imagine how are you going to to tell this news to your family......

well that all for now, and i hope i am able to improve more in my speaking and writing skills through your class...hehehe.... thank you very much and wasalam...

textbook

assalamualaikum...and every good day to you, miss adila.

today is the first day we use our textbook in the class. and of course we begin with the first chapter. hehe.....it is very enjoyable because i am able to act as a doctor and as well as the patient.

but before that, miss adila gives us some comments about our previous posts. she says that the delivery and contents of the posts are good but there is still a problem with the sentence structure.
hahaha... miss adila, actually my skill in writing has corrode a bit after the spm. but i will try my best to improve it.

miss adila teaches us how to be a concern doctor when talking to the patient. we learn about open-ended questions, leading questions and small talk. we also learn the differences between open-ended questions and close-ended questions.

it is quite hard to be a nice doctor because you need to care your patient`s emotion. i try my best to be a good doctor when i enroll as the doctor during the small talk. i find that it is hard to understand patient`s thought especially those who have mental or feeling problems.

that why as a doctor, one must withstand all of these challenges especially when it involves with the patients. doctors must show good attitudes, caring, responsible and always smile. this is important because smiling help to improve your patient`s first impression.

when i become the patient, then only i know how we cause lots of problem to the doctor. i know that we are sick, but sometimes it is advised for us to show good attitude or to cooperate warmly with the doctor. hahaha....

as a conclusion, i can say that doctor must be patience with their patients because good doctors always potray good attitudes. the most important lesson that i learn to day is that doctor must make sure that their patients are willing to tell or share with them about their problems which are very helpful in their treatment.

ok...that all and thank you

presentation ll

assalamualaikum......and every good day to you, Miss Adila.

today is our third meeting and the remaining groups represent about their topics.

today i learn about lots of new things. my friends presentations are so nice and informative. some talk about egypt mummification, indonesian treatments and ancient rome medicine. some of my friends continue talking about my topic that was ancient chinese medicine.

for the indonesian treatment, my friedns have been focusing on javanese culture. the javanese believe in shamans who practises black magic and all of those spiritual believe. from their presentation, i learnt that `jamu`, a herbal liquid that is made from 400 types of plants, is used widely in their traditional treatment. they also use `keris` where they believe to have such special spirit that can treat sick people.

rome medicne is very interesting because it involves their god`s family. the god of medicine which is symbolised as a serpent or snake is believe to be able to revive the dead to life. then, there was conflict between this god and the underworld god which ended up by the death of medicine god. however, that god was revive back by the father of all gods, zues.

i also learn about the egyptian mummification. it is very interesting to know that they used a type of salt from the nile river called natron. the mummification process take 70 days to complete. the mummification process varies according to the status of the decease. the higher the status, the special treatment he or she will get.

about the chinese culture, my friends just discuss about tui na and qi gong. for tui na, they just add more details about it and as a continuation from my presentation. qi gong is something new for today. qi gong is actually the same with tai chi but is perform in a very very slow motion than tai chi which a martial art.

miss adila also give us some comments. the first one is the eye contact with the audiences and also the body language. the second is how to prepare a slide show and the way to present it. i believe that all of these comments are very useful to me and my friends. i hope that i will be able to perform much better than the first one. hehehe...

that all for today and i hope the next class will be much better than this one. thank you.......

ancient chinese medicine and role of doctor at that time!

assalammualaikum...and a every good day to all.

wow....today is the first time my group and i present something about deities in front of our class. our topic is about ancient chinese medicine and the role of doctor at that time.
we are the first group to present our presentation and i am proud of it.

we touch about tui na, tai chi, acupuncture and herbs that involve in ancient chinese treatment.
tui na or massage is refers to techniques to massage the body using bare hands. meanwhile, tai chi is refers as slow motion of movement in order to achieve Qi, the vital energy according to the chinese believe.

the chinese ancient doctors chose their herbs using the five tastes technique involving salty, pungent, bitter, sweet and sour. each of these taste of its own unique function.

we also talk a bit about history how the ancient chinese believe in shamans and devils. during that time, illness is believe to be the work of the devils. for example, chinese first emperor died because of his shaman. he died due to mercury poisoning.

however, there were famous doctors that became the first generation as real doctors such as bian que.

the doctors at that time are not well accepted by the chinese society at that time. the dcotors are only paid when the patient are completely heal after the treatments.

among the best philosophy used at that is "one cannot destriy life in order to save life" and "doctors are advised to treat their patients kindly without looking at their age, status, money and else".

other group also present their own topic. some talk about african medicine, indian medicine and japanese medicine.

for example, in japanese culture, doctors are not well accepted by the society who strongly hold to their believe in spiritual treatment such as going to the temple. indian deities is famous with its ayurveda, one of four most popular element use in indian medicine.

miss adila also gives advices to us on how to present something properly and to improve our presentation. one of her advices is not to look the the slide during the presentation but read it at the laptop and audiences please pay attention.

hehehe....i am looking for the next groups to present and i also anxious with my next presentation.

okey, that all for today and wish me all the best. thank you.....
